Simo Ngubeni

Simo Ngubeni is a storyteller who works primarily through film, drawn to the medium as his preferred way of expressing ideas and narratives. His creative sensibility has been shaped by two main influences: the lyrics and rhythms of music, and a colourful upbringing that gave him a rich well of personal experience to draw from. He found his footing as a director by shooting music videos for prominent artists, a starting point that let him develop his craft in a genre built around rhythm, emotion, and visual interpretation of sound. Capturing performance is where he considers his particular strength, translating the energy of a live moment into something that holds up on screen. Beyond performance, Simo is skilled at taking lyrics or storyboards and turning them into fully realized stories that genuinely engage an audience and speak to broader cultural moments, rather than simply illustrating the source material literally. As part of Lampost's RISE mentorship program, his next step is expanding into shooting stories for commercial brands, applying that same narrative instinct to brand-driven work.
